Japan intends to continue participation in the oil and gas projects in Sakhalin, country's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said in parliament.
"As for the process of overcoming dependence on Russia in the energy sector, in the second half of last year we reduced oil imports from Russia by 90%, and coal imports by 60%. At the same time, demand for liquefied natural gas is expected to grow in future, and Sakhalin projects are important from the point of view of Japan's energy security, so we intend to keep our stakes in them," he said.
