Germany eyes launching 2 LNG receiving terminals by year-end

Germany plans to launch first terminals for receiving LNG before the end of this year, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on October 20, Report informs citing TASS.

“The first terminals in Wilhelmshaven and Brunsbuttel will be connected to the network before the end of the year. The first deliveries via Lubmin may also follow soon,” the head of the German government said. According to Scholz, more terminals will be added over the next year.

Germany, due to Russia’s hostilities in Ukraine, decided to reduce its dependence on energy resources from the Russian Federation and expand the construction of LNG receiving terminals. As German Economy and Climate Minister Robert Habeck noted earlier, Germany will have two floating regasification units for receiving LNG by the end of the year, and two more by May 2023. Their total annual capacity is estimated at 33 billion cubic meters of gas. The first stationary LNG terminal in Germany is planned to be completed by 2026.
