Europe sets record for LNG imports in April

Europe set an all-time record for liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports in April, Report informs, citing the data from Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE).

In April, LNG flows from European terminals into the EU gas transmission system amounted to approximately 12.8 billion cubic meters, which is 1% higher than in March and 20% more than in April 2024. This figure marks the highest on record, surpassing the previous peak set in March of this year (12.7 billion cubic meters).

From January to April, LNG deliveries from terminals into Europe's gas transmission system totaled about 46.8 billion cubic meters — a 12% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

In 2025, LNG holds the largest share among Europe's gas sources, accounting for 33.6% of supply, according to data from the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) as of April 29. In second place is gas withdrawn from storage facilities (27.2%), followed by supplies from the North Sea — mainly Norwegian gas — at 22.2%.

This exceeds the supply share from the East (Russian gas, gas transit through Ukraine, and European companies extracting their gas from Ukrainian underground storage facilities), which stands at 3.8%. Gas imports from North Africa account for 8.2%, from the United Kingdom 2.3%, and from Azerbaijan 2.8%.
