Azerbaijan sees Middle Corridor gaining importance amid Red Sea disruption

The closure of the Red Sea has further increased the importance of the Middle Corridor, Azerbaijani Deputy Energy Minister Orkhan Zeynalov said.
According to Report, Zeynalov made the remarks at the Second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026) in Baku.
He said the recent crisis involving the Red Sea had shown that the Middle Corridor was even more important than previously thought.
"Not a single barrel of oil passing through the Middle Corridor was stopped, and not a single cubic meter of gas transportation was interrupted. It continues to operate as strongly as ever," he said.
Zeynalov added that pipeline gas supplies would remain important and that Azerbaijan would continue investing in conventional energy.
"At the same time, we are investing in green corridors without compromising energy security. Eight gigawatts of capacity are planned for the next six years, which will feed four corridor projects," he said.
