Azerbaijan and China mull green energy projects

Azerbaijan and China have exchanged views on a number of issues related to the development of their energy partnership, Report informs, citing the Energy Ministry of Azerbaijan.

The discussions took place during a meeting between Azerbaijan's Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and Lu Mei, China's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan.

The meeting addressed the current state and prospects for developing energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and China, as well as several ongoing and planned projects.

The sides noted that the 100 MW solar power plant being built by Universal International Holdings Limited in Azerbaijan's Gobustan district would contribute to the efficient use of the country's renewable energy potential and help achieve its energy transition targets.

The meeting also touched upon a study of Azerbaijan's electricity grid being conducted by China's Electric Power Planning and Engineering Institute (EPPEI). The results of the study are expected to play an important role in the future development of Azerbaijan's energy sector.

Cooperation within the framework of China's Belt and Road Initiative was also discussed.

"At the meeting with Ms. Lu Mei, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Azerbaijan, we discussed energy cooperation between two countries," Shahbazov said.

They exchanged views on the participation of Chinese companies in Azerbaijan's domestic and international initiatives, including projects in the field of green energy.
