Iranian veterinarians could not save a 10-month-old cub of an endangered Asiatic cheetah named Piruz, the Iranian state news agency IRNA said, Report informs via Interfax.
Piruz died at the Central Veterinary Hospital after undergoing dialysis - the animal suffered from kidney failure.
"We are very saddened by the loss of Piruz and the failure of all efforts to save him," said the head physician of the hospital, Omid Moradi.
According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, only a dozen cheetahs remain in Iran.
These predators are found in South Africa, but have practically disappeared from the northern part of the African continent and Asia. Iran is one of the few countries that still have the Asian subspecies of the cheetah.
