Project leader: Armenia hinders foreign photographers from documenting Western Azerbaijan heritage

Over the past six months, foreign photographers involved in activities in the territory of Western Azerbaijan have filmed the destroyed houses, monuments, graves, broken headstones, and inscriptions there, Musa Marjanli, editor-in-chief of the Irs magazine and head of the scientific-practical project "Stones Speak in Silence: Protecting the Heritage of Azerbaijan", told journalists.

Report quotes Marjanli as saying obstacles have been created in the work process for foreign photographers involved in activities in the territory of Western Azerbaijan, where Azerbaijanis once lived in Armenia:

"Although we repeatedly sent foreign photographers to those areas several times, the Armenians did not allow them to work. The Yazidi Kurds living in some villages in that region also did not allow foreign photographers near those areas.

"However, despite these difficulties, photos reflecting the heritage of Western Azerbaijan were obtained and those images were included in the fundamental publication 'Time to Gather Stones', which will be presented today."
