The architectural ensemble of Baku is unique, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said during a video conference with Shahin Seyidzade on March 3 in connection with his appointment as Chairman of the Board of Icharishahar State Historical and Architectural Reserve.
"Both its geographical location and its location on the shores of the Caspian Sea, as well as ancient monuments, historical monuments, modern architectural samples, create a special aura in Baku," he said.
"I am sure that every visitor sees that there is a unity between antiquity and modernity in Baku. Baku is developing, growing, and recently special attention has been paid to the architectural issues of Baku. There was a time when ugly, clumsy buildings in Baku appeared like mushrooms. Unfortunately, these awkward buildings, which do not meet architectural norms and do not meet any architectural standards, have changed the appearance of some parts of Baku for the worse. However, recently this issue has been under strict control. All these issues are regulated by the state.
But there are still such cases, and I want to warn all agencies, government agencies, and entrepreneurs that this will not be allowed. I especially appeal to entrepreneurs - the pursuit of profit does not mean that we can spoil our unique city with ugly buildings. We will not allow it; illegal constructions must be stopped. All bodies controlling this issue - the Baku City Executive Power, the executive heads of the Baku districts - must take this matter very seriously. I am confident that from now on, Baku will develop on the basis of a single architectural concept," the head of state said.
