MP: 'Operation against Azerbaijanis in Russia is provocative'

The FSB operation against Azerbaijanis in Russia's Yekaterinburg is provocative in nature, Azerbaijani MP Javanshir Pashazada told Report.

He noted that the murders and torture of Azerbaijanis in Russia could have a strong negative impact on relations between the two countries: "Detaining people without any legal grounds, without trial, torturing and killing them - this either indicates lawlessness in the country or stems from hatred towards representatives of other nations. I express my condolences to the families of our compatriots who died during these events. Judicial investigation is being conducted regarding the detained individuals. I hope that everything will become clear during these court proceedings. Unfortunately, this is not the first incident directed against our country and our citizens. The Russian side has not yet provided satisfactory answers to Azerbaijan regarding the plane crash near Aktau."

Pashazada added that the denial of entry to Russia for Azerbaijani deputies and the disrespect shown to them has also become one of the events that could undermine relations between the two countries: "Azerbaijan has taken the necessary steps in connection with the incident. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned these actions. This event is in the field of view of our head of state. The operation against Azerbaijanis is provocative in nature. It would not be surprising if, during the investigation, it turns out that Armenians are also involved in this provocation. I hope that this issue will be investigated and will be the last provocation against our compatriots."
