This act of provocation in Russia was deliberately carried out by certain circles in Russia, Samir Humbatov, head of the Center for International Relations and Diplomatic Research, told Report regarding the recent Yekaterinburg events.
He noted that although various excuses are being voiced regarding the incident, the killing of Azerbaijanis during the incident is a reality:
"Several were subjected to torture. They are trying to force them to sign various documents. Even when police were taking them away, they asked why they were living in Russia and wanted them to return to their country. It seems that some circles are already trying to pressure Azerbaijanis there by pursuing a chauvinist policy."
According to the expert, Azerbaijan has rightfully demanded an explanation from Russia on this matter:
"Russia's chargé d'affaires was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and necessary objections were expressed. In my opinion, this incident committed in Russia is purposeful and directed against Azerbaijan. In this matter, Azerbaijanis should already organize and maintain close contact with Azerbaijan's embassy and consulates in Russia."
Humbatov emphasized that the fate of the Azerbaijanis who were attacked should be closely monitored:
"There are insidious plans behind this step. These actions contradict the spirit of the Russia-Azerbaijan alliance declaration signed on February 22, 2022, and are unacceptable. The Russian side's failure to provide an explanation so far damages the alliance; either such behaviors must be immediately prevented, or serious protests are expected in the near future. The killing of people by state power structures means that instructions were received from the state. Therefore, attention should be paid to the issue and orchestrated criminal acts should be prevented."
