Baku to host summit of religious leaders as part of COP29

The Muslim Council of Elders will hold a summit of religious leaders on the sidelines of the COP29 conference, which will be held this year in Azerbaijan, Report informs referring to the Caucasus Muslim Office (CMO).

A UN interfaith pavilion will also be created as part of COP29.

The chairman of the CMO, Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, took part in the meeting of the council in Abu Dhabi.

Participants of the event especially noted the successful organization by the council of the first UN interreligious pavilion within the framework of COP28 in Abu Dhabi in 2023, as well as a summit of religious leaders, to which representatives of the Vatican were also invited.

It was emphasized that the creation of the UN interreligious pavilion and the organization of the summit of religious leaders at COP29 in Azerbaijan were also entrusted to the Muslim Council of Elders.

Pashazade noted that the council gained valuable experience at the last UN climate change conference. The head of the Management Committee expressed the hope that this experience will contribute to the successful organization of events at COP29 in Baku.
