Azerbaijani MP calls operation in Yekaterinburg a state crime

The operation conducted by Russia's Federal Security Service against Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg is a state crime, Azerbaijani MP Musa Guliyev told Report.

The MP stated that what happened is a state-supported act of terror and bandit movement:

"It is clear that Federal Service employees conducted an operation during night hours, without a court order, without informing Russian law enforcement agencies. Investigating an incident that happened 25 years ago in this manner reminds me of a fairy tale. If there is a murder, a person is called in, interrogated and questioned, and if their guilt is proven, they are held accountable. This operation is an assessment for the Russian state's relations with Azerbaijan. The true reason for this incident will soon be revealed."

According to him, the manipulation attempts in Russian media and various information platforms after the incident show that the issue is being directed at the state level: "We condemn this murder and demand punishment for all those involved in the incident. At the same time, we demand an explanation from the Russian state, parliament, and other institutions. The strategic alliance between Azerbaijan and Russia is not reflected in this incident. This is a government step, and Russia intends to weaken relations with Azerbaijan through such steps. Currently, Russia is in an isolated position in the world. This should make some people in that country think and worry."

The MP added that this incident once again showed that there are serious obstacles in Azerbaijan-Russia relations and Moscow is not a reliable partner: "I am confident that this crime will find its adequate outcome. I believe that Russian institutions will provide an explanation regarding the incident and, if necessary, offer compensation. I extend my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during the incident and wish recovery to the injured."
