The implementation of gender-sensitive models in climate financing will support gender equality in climate actions, Bahar Muradova, Chairperson of the State Committee of Azerbaijan for Family, Women and Children Affairs, said at COP29 Gender Equality Day, Report informs.

According to Muradova, the draft National Action Plan on Gender Equality has already been prepared. "By applying gender-sensitive indicators, we can reveal the existing gender inequality in climate change. In line with our international and national commitments, one of the main priorities of the Plan is adaptation measures that take into account the impact of climate change on gender equality, as well as risks for women and children. The implementation of the plan will inform the public and decision-makers about the gender aspects of climate change," she stated.

The committee chair emphasized that among Azerbaijan's climate goals, ensuring women's access to environmental issues and increasing their participation holds a special place. "As a country facing water scarcity, we approach this issue with a gender-sensitive approach. The topic of water and gender equality is on the agenda of relevant government agencies," Muradova noted.

She also pointed out that Azerbaijan's socio-economic development agenda aims to improve women's access to economic opportunities: "Within the framework of COP29, we confirm our commitment to make gender equality a core principle of every climate policy. Gender equality in BTRs and NDCs is not just a goal, but an essential condition for a sustainable and just climate future."

"Supporting these initiatives will allow us to make gender equality an integral part of our climate change policy and contribute to building a stronger and more inclusive society together," Muradova concluded.
