Lindsay, a U.S.-based global leader in irrigation technology enhanced by artificial intelligence, together with its official partner in Azerbaijan — 4S LLC — showcased cutting-edge innovations at CaspianAgro 2025.
Bruno Perroni, Regional Manager at Lindsay, emphasized the critical role of AI in modern irrigation: “Artificial intelligence is essential for ensuring optimal water usage in irrigation. As global water resources are being depleted, agriculture will face serious challenges without such technologies.”
Reports such as the European Drought Risk Atlas show that drought and climate change make efficient water management vital for agriculture.
According to Perroni:“Water is both a fundamental and increasingly scarce resource in farming. Growing more and better crops with less water is now a technological challenge, not just a farming one.”
FieldNET technology saves 15–30% water.
Lindsay’s FieldNET and FieldNET Advisor platforms use AI algorithms to combine data from weather, soil, and crop conditions to calculate the optimal irrigation schedule for each field.
This results in increased productivity and up to 15–30% water savings.
“FieldNET technology is already widely used in Azerbaijan. It can be integrated into nearly all electric pivot systems. In some cases, up to 30% more area can be irrigated using the same water volume,” Perroni noted.
4S LLC’s Digital Vision: over 40,000 hectares covered
Lindsay’s irrigation equipment has been in use in Azerbaijan for over 20 years, now covering more than 30,000 hectares.
Elkhan Alekperov, founder of 4S LLC, stated that their goal is to digitize all pivot systems across the country, regardless of brand: “Azerbaijan is not rich in water resources. That’s why every drop of water must be used efficiently. With AI, irrigating 30–40% more land with the same amount of water is a realistic and achievable goal.”
Government support and new opportunities for farmers
To make Lindsay’s systems accessible to agricultural producers in Azerbaijan, the technology is offered under state-supported leasing programs. This opens up great potential, especially for small and medium-sized farms.
Elkhan Alekperov also shared notable statistics:
According to the World Bank (2024), up to 60% of water used in agriculture is lost.
The UN estimates that by 2030, 40% of the global population will face water scarcity.
According to FAO (2023), AI in irrigation has led to a 25% average increase in crop productivity.
The technological transformation led by Lindsay and 4S LLC is of strategic importance for Azerbaijan’s water security and agricultural resilience. The solutions presented at CaspianAgro 2025 show that the future of irrigation is already here.
