Azerbaijan to sign maritime cooperation memorandums with several European countries

Azerbaijan is preparing to sign maritime cooperation memorandums with Poland, Croatia, Germany, and Latvia to facilitate the seamless employment of Azerbaijani seafarers on ships under various flags, as well as enable seafarers from these countries to work in Azerbaijan, Khatira Mehdiyeva, Head of the Intergovernmental Relations Department at the Azerbaijan State Maritime and Port Agency, said during the roundtable discussion "Azerbaijan – The Crossroads of Transcontinental Megaroutes: East-West and North-South."

According to Mehdiyeva, over the past two years, Azerbaijan has signed several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in the maritime sector with countries from the Middle East, Far East, and Europe.

"Additionally, we have special agreements on the mutual recognition of seafarers' diplomas under international conventions. These documents allow both our seafarers and foreign specialists to work freely on ships flying different flags. In this regard, we have already signed MoUs with Korea, Serbia, and Kazakhstan," she stated.

Mehdiyeva emphasized that internal state procedures are currently underway for signing similar agreements with Poland, Croatia, Germany, and Latvia.

"Notably, these countries themselves initiated the signing of the memorandums, which highlights Azerbaijan's growing significance in the maritime sector," she added.
