Azerbaijan resumes importing rice from two more countries 

Azerbaijan imported 22,000 tons of rice worth $19.3 million in January-March 2023, up 37% and 47.2%, respectively, from the previous year, Report informs, citing the State Statistical Committee.

Below are the countries from which Azerbaijan imported rice during the reporting period:

- India – 19,972 tons (+71%) worth $17.713 million (+66%);
- China – 663.2 tons (+8,288 times) worth $553,000 (+2,514 times);
- Pakistan – 518.5 tons (+64%) worth $379,000 (+39%);
- Thailand – 402 tons (+81%) worth $293,430 (+75%);
- Kazakhstan – 358 tons (-70%) worth $271,000 (-55%).

This year, Azerbaijan imported rice from Paraguay (7 tons worth $5,500) and Singapore (10 kg worth $60) for the first time in the last 12 years (note: publicly available official statistics on foreign trade are as of 2011).

Some 74.8% of total rice imports (50,236 tons from 22 countries) in 2022 fell to the share of India.
