A "smart collar" that monitors the health condition of animals has been developed in Azerbaijan, Anar Jafarov, Director of the Agricultural Innovation Center under the Ministry of Agriculture, told Report.
He noted that a recent bootcamp was organized in the village of Aghali, located in the Zangilan district, with the goal of fostering coordination between students from leading Azerbaijani universities—specializing in artificial intelligence, computer engineering, and mechatronics—and major agro-parks:
"Although our agro-parks employ modern technologies, they are often unaware of the most advanced and effective solutions being developed by our students. The purpose of such events is to showcase these student-developed solutions, fostering a synergy between youth, universities, and innovation," Jafarov explained.
He added that several successful projects have already emerged, including the "smart collar" project developed by a startup founder from Zagatala. The device is worn around the neck of large livestock and tracks the animal's pulse, stress level, and physiological changes, transmitting the data to a central monitoring system.
"When animals encounter wild predators, the device emits specific sounds designed to scare them off. Similar devices produced in Poland and Türkiye are already in use at Dost Agropark," he noted.
