It is important that Azerbaijan's agriculture is climate-resistant against higher temperatures and lower water supply, the representative of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in Azerbaijan, Aliya Azimova, said at the event titled “Raising Ambition, Delivering Action: COP29 Sustainable Business Forum”, Report informs.

According to her, investing into water security in the country facing 30-50% loss of resources, is vital now and even more important for future sustainability.

"Climate-smart agriculture practices are already being implemented, especially on large commercial farms, to increase productivity, climate resilience and reduce emissions,” Azimova added.

The official also said that state policy should be focused on supporting small and medium enterprises, which currently play an important role in agriculture.

“Key solutions include solar-powered pumps, biogas production and water efficiency measures to reduce agricultural carbon emissions. Rehabilitating and modernizing irrigation systems and improving water productivity are critical and require an investment of approximately $16 billion by 2060,” she stated.
