Last year, 6,647.2 tons of honey, 157.6 tons of wax, 14.6 tons of propolis, 14.7 tons of bee bread and 366.1 kg of royal jelly were received from 596,700 bee colonies in 32,340 farms in Azerbaijan, Report informs, referring to the State Statistics Committee.
The average selling price of 1 kilogram of honey was 24.9 manats, wax was on sale for 12.7 manats, propolis for 131.6 manats, bee bread for 127.2 manats, and the average selling price of 1 gram of royal jelly was 5 manats.
In accordance with the Azerbaijani president’s decree No. 3747 dated March 5, 2018 ‘On stimulating the development of beekeeping’ for individuals and legal entities engaged in beekeeping, a subsidy of 10 manats for each bee colony (hive) was established, which, along with having a positive impact on the development beekeeping in the country is important in terms of providing employment in rural areas and increasing incomes of the population.
So, compared to 2017, the number of bee colonies in 2020 increased by 325,000, and honey production rose by 3,604.1 tons. In general, over 12 years that followed the adoption of the law ‘On beekeeping,’ honey production increased 4.7 times, and the number of bee colonies grew 4.2 times, while the number of bee colonies, on average, for each of the households engaged in beekeeping, increased from 11.1 to 18.5.
