Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan launch negotiations on border demarcation and delimitation

The government delegations of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have started negotiations on the demarcation and delimitation of the common section of the border, Report informs, citing TASS.

"Negotiations between government delegations on the delimitation and demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border have begun in the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan," the press service statement of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan said.

The heads of the state committees of national security, Kamchybek Tashiev, and Saimumin Yatimov, are heading the parties' delegations.

The conflict between residents of the border areas of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on April 29 turned into an armed confrontation between the military of the two countries. Clashes between Kyrgyz and Tajik border guards continued for more than six hours. About 40 people were killed on both sides, while more than 200 were injured.

On April 29, the parties agreed on a ceasefire and the withdrawal of forces from the border. However, the skirmishes resumed the next day again. Another truce was reached in the late afternoon of April 30.
