The transfer of Indian-made military equipment to Armenia through Iran raises concerns regarding the stability of the South Caucasus, Khalid Taimur Akram, Executive Director of the Pakistani Center for Global & Strategic Studies, told Report.
"The shipment, consisting of lethal weapons and ammunition, was en route to Armenia via the Bandar Abbas port in Iran. This move by India is to escalate tensions, destabilize the South Caucasus region, and add fuel to the fire. These actions are not only sabotaging regional peace but also hindering the establishment of a sustainable peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan," he said.
The expert called India's actions provocative and dangerous .
"It looks like India and Armenia have always posed threats to regional stability. The comparison between Azerbaijan's response to Armenia and Pakistan's approach to countering violent activities from their respective neighbors highlights the shared challenges faced by both the South Caucasus and South Asia," Khalid Taimur Akram said.
"Armenia's military ambitions need to be curbed to prevent a potential reprise of hostilities, and India's involvement in supplying weapons demands scrutiny. India and Armenia are eroding global peace by adding more problems to the world. The international community must play a proactive role in ensuring lasting peace and security in the South Caucasus region," he said.
According to the expert, instead of pursuing dialogue, diplomacy, and mediation, Armenia is attempting to destabilize the region and escalate conflict.
"Such actions represent the primary obstacle to achieving a possible peace agreement. Despite Azerbaijan consistently offering peace, it seems that Armenia is uninterested in peace and is instead focused on militarization," he said.
The expert noted that the transfer of Indian-made military equipment to Armenia represents a dangerous move that has the worst implications for regional security and peace. Amidst the ongoing conflicts and geopolitical complexities, it is essential international community to prevent any escalation of hostilities.
