Criminal group of 25 people detained in Kazakhstan

The Organized Crime Control Department of Kazakhstan, together with the prosecutor’s office, detained 25 members of a criminal group in the Karaganda region, Report informs via Kazakh media.

The detainees are suspected of beatings, extortion and other crimes.

“In total, 25 members of the group were detained. Of these, 10 of the most active were arrested. During the searches, firearms and bladed weapons, ammunition, religious literature and a large amount of money were confiscated. Their involvement in other crimes is currently being verified,” the head of the department - official representative of the country’s Internal Affairs Ministry Shyngys Alekeshev said.

During the operational investigation, the involvement of this group in 12 crimes was established, the department added.

Among the victims are employees of Karmet JSC, individual entrepreneurs and students.

Earlier it was reported that during a raid in Astana, the police seized over 2 tons of naswar (powdered tobacco).

An underground workshop for the production of naswar was discovered in a private house in the Baikonur district.

The total amount of illegal products seized is over 10 million tenge.
