The new Constitution should play a key role in fostering peace and security in Armenia, Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan told journalists, Report informs, citing Armenian media.
Commenting on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recent statement that the new Constitution should have “regional significance,” Galyan clarified that the document is designed to promote stability and security.
"We must work towards establishing a peaceful and safe environment in our country," she stated. However, she emphasized that the current Constitution does not obstruct a peaceful resolution, including with Azerbaijan.
Galyan refrained from sharing specific details about the constitutional reform, noting that the project remains in the development phase and will be presented to the public at a later stage.
She also underscored that achieving peace depends not only on constitutional amendments but also on legal frameworks, citizen behavior, and government policies.
"We are a government aimed at the final establishment of peace. Through our foreign policy, we are taking all necessary steps to guarantee stability and security for our citizens," Galyan added.
On February 19, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia needs a new Constitution, arguing that previous referendums on its adoption were marred by legitimacy concerns.
