Swiss defense minister announces resignation

Switzerland’s defense minister and former president Viola Amherd has announced her resignation, voicing criticism of increased polarization in political discourse, Report informs via Bloomberg.
Amherd, 62, has been a member of the Federal Council — Switzerland’s seven-member executive — since 2019.
A politician of the Christian-democratic Center Alliance, she held the country’s rotating presidency last year.
She will step down on March 31, the government said in a post on X on January 15.
