"The Democracy Summit is an ordinary video conference. There is no point to exaggerate it so much," head of the Atlas Research Center, a political scientist Elkhan Shahinoglu told Report.
"It is beyond any doubts that US rivals China and Russia could not be invited to the meeting. But Azerbaijan and Turkey are not US rivals. In general, the invitation of states that have nothing to do in common with democracy to the meeting is a mystery. Washington has long lost its human rights protector status. The United States was a state that imposed double standards to the black people until the 1960s.”
Shahinoglu believes that serious mistakes were made in the US foreign and military security policies: “The United States is one of the superpowers. Official Washington has different interests in different places. It is the country with the largest number of military bases overseas. It also cooperates with Azerbaijan on various issues. For example, the interference in Iraq, its steps in Afghanistan, failure in Vietnam, its support for the color revolutions are examples of them. But I think it is more expedient for the US to be a superpower than Russia and China. The policies of both Beijing and Moscow are obvious.”
The political pundit also added that Armenia's attempts to take steps against Azerbaijan at the democracy summit will be in vain: “No doubt that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will try to conduct propaganda against Azerbaijan. However, world countries, including the United States, are preoccupied with their own affairs. Recent processes, as well as Armenia’s failure at the International Court of Justice, have shown that Armenia cannot receive the support of the world community. In short, the US has neither the time nor the interest to give ear to Armenia."
The Turkic-speaking countries, as well as Washington's main rivals Russia and China, have not been invited to the democracy summit initiated by US President Jo Biden. This is an indication that the US is using the democracy factor for its own political purposes. The withdrawal of the US from Afghanistan, as well as the "Arab Spring" in various countries, is the impact of Washington's "democratic values".
