Over 20 COP28 participants call for tripling potential of global nuclear energy

More than 20 countries participating in the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) adopted a declaration calling for tripling the global nuclear energy potential by 2050, Report informs via TASS.

Participants committed to the declaration will work together to achieve the global target of tripling nuclear energy capacity by 2050 compared to 2020, says the document, called Triple Nuclear Energy.

The countries that adopted the declaration also pledged to take action at the national level to ensure the responsible operation of nuclear power plants in accordance with the highest standards of safety, sustainability, security and non-proliferation, as well as the responsible management of fuel waste in the long term.

The document was signed by 22 countries, including the UK, Hungary, Canada, the Netherlands, UAE, Poland, USA, Ukraine, Finland, France, Sweden, South Korea and Japan.
