Moldovan president accuses opposition of aiding Russian interference

Moldovan President Maia Sandu has accused opposition forces of working with Russia and attempting to destabilize the country ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections, Report informs, citing Moldovan press.

Speaking at a press conference following a meeting of the Supreme Security Council, where the issue of foreign interference in the electoral process was discussed, Sandu warned of unprecedented external threats.

"Starting this autumn, Russia is preparing an unprecedented interference in the elections to establish control over the Republic of Moldova," she stated.

Sandu claimed that Russia is planning to organize “paid protests” in the country and has launched a campaign to discredit politicians, public figures, and journalists who support Moldova’s integration with the European Union.

She also noted that some priests from the Moldovan Orthodox Church are allegedly involved in these activities.
