German Cabinet rules out Scholz's Moscow visit before February 23

Chancellor Olaf Scholz's visit to Moscow before the early parliamentary elections in Germany, scheduled for February 23, is ruled out, the German government's official spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit said at a briefing, Report informs via TASS.

"Yes," he said, answering whether the German government rules out the possibility of Scholz's visit to Russia before the elections.

Bundestag member Roderich Kiesewetter (Christian Democratic Union, CDU) wrote on January 4 on social network "X" that there is allegedly increasing information about Scholz's plans to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin before February 23.

Additionally, he claimed that a meeting between elected US President Donald Trump and Putin was "scheduled for March." Scholz called Kiesewetter's words "false" and "extremely inappropriate." Leading politicians from the Social Democratic Party of Germany also accused the CDU deputy of spreading disinformation before the elections and called for the post to be deleted.
