Canada to allocate $175 million to low-income countries for COVID-19 vaccination

The Canadian government will allocate CAD220 million ($175 million) for vaccination against the new coronavirus to low-income countries, Report informs, citing a statement by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The funds will be distributed through the international COVAX mechanism.

Earlier, Canada provided CAD2.7 billion ($2.15 billion) to fight the pandemic in developing and poor countries.

COVAX is an international mechanism launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) with the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations.
