Ensuring peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia could be the foundation for development in the South Caucasus, said Fuat Oktay, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Report informs.
He made the remark at the International Parliamentary Conference on "Parliamentarism: Traditions and Perspectives" held in Baku.
Oktay highlighted that the parliament of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic signed its first agreement with the Ottoman state, saying, "At that time, it was a period when our nation was facing great challenges. However, our support for each other remained strong throughout our freedom struggle."
The chairman also emphasized that the National Leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev's words "One nation, two states" are the most eloquent expression of Türkiye-Azerbaijan relations:
"Our relations in all areas are progressing as strongly and healthily as between two brothers, not just two states. This unity was especially evident during the Second Karabakh War.”
Oktay expressed his belief that peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan would be achieved, stating, "The opportunity that arose after the 44-day war could serve as the foundation for development in the South Caucasus."
