Experts: Azerbaijan and Pakistan continue to strengthen military co-op

The 10th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan Working Group between the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan and the Joint Headquarters of Pakistan highlights the commitment of both countries to strengthen a strong partnership in the field of defense and security, Pakistani analyst and expert on Central Asia Muhammad Ali Pasha told Report.

According to the expert, discussions during the meeting on various aspects of military cooperation, including education, operational planning and joint exercises, indicate a comprehensive approach to strengthening bilateral ties.

“Both countries are interested not only in solving pressing problems, but also in creating the basis for long-term cooperation. Following the meeting, the parties signed a final protocol, which indicates their intentions to further implement what was discussed during the meeting, providing a structured basis for subsequent military cooperation,” he said.

Ali Pasha noted that the parties clearly speak of their commitment to strengthening military ties and strategic partnership.

Center for South Asia & International Studies (CSAIS) Executive Director Mehmood Ul-Hassan Khan explained that the signing of the final protocol at the recent meeting is a strategic roadmap for future cooperation that symbolizes the strong bond and common goals between the defense forces of the two countries.

“Expanding military cooperation between Azerbaijan and Pakistan will further strengthen the defense partnership between them, and will also have a positive impact on the socio-economic, geopolitical and geostrategic spheres. Simply put, this is the creation of balance in the greater Eurasian region, and in particular in the South Caucasus. The recent meeting highlights the current state of military cooperation between the two countries and lays the foundation for a strong partnership capable of meeting emerging challenges,” he said.

According to the expert, the transregional military partnership between India and Armenia is an alarming signal for the countries of the region, especially for Azerbaijan, Pakistan and Türkiye. “Therefore, there is a need to further strengthen the bilateral and trilateral security dialogue between the three countries.”
