Armenia uses water resources in the occupied territories to carry out environmental terrorism against the Azerbaijani population living in areas adjacent to the contact line. In this regard, the Azerbaijani community of the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan sent a letter to the Council of Europe's leadership.
Report informs referring to the Azerbaijani community of the Nagorno-Karabakh region. The letter reflects issues related to the artificial blocking of rivers flowing in the upper part of Karabakh occupied by Armenia and the illegal construction of canals from the Sarsang reservoir in the direction of the low-lying part of Karabakh.
The letter notes that the occupying country, using water resources as a means of exerting pressure, actually prevents the population settled in the lower reaches of the rivers from engaging in agriculture.
Thus, in the winter months, the Armenians open a dam on the Sarsang River, flooding Azerbaijani farmers' sown areas. In the summer, when there is a great need for water, the Armenians cut off the water, artificially create drought, thereby damaging agriculture, flora, and fauna.
