Nearly extinct tigers captured on camera in Thailand

For the first time in four years, endangered tigers were seen in western Thailand, Report says, citing Lonely Planet.

The Thai Department of Wildlife and the global wild cat conservation organization said they had recorded photos of Indo-Chinese tigers.

There are an estimated 3,900 tigers left in the wild worldwide, down from 100,000 a century ago.

However, they are very few in that area, and specialists must determine the exact number of these animals.  The new sightings in Thailand then are hugely important for the survival of the entire species and ecosystem restoration.

The big cats' footage is rekindling hope that the previous number of tigers in Thailand will be restored.
