Sputnik-Azerbaijan case: five people placed under police supervision

Five people involved in the Sputnik-Azerbaijan case have been placed under police supervision.

As Report informs, they are citizens of Azerbaijan.

These individuals were released after giving testimony.

The Spokesperson of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Aykhan Hajizada, announced on February 24 the closure of the Russia Today (Sputnik) representative office in Azerbaijan. He stated that the organization could only be accredited with one correspondent.

Despite this, Sputnik Azerbaijan continued its activities, and its employees continued to work. For this reason, the police conducted an operation at the office of the Sputnik Azerbaijan Information Agency, and director Igor Kartavykh and employee Evgeny Belousov were detained. Both were charged under articles 178.3.1 (fraud causing significant damage), 192.2.2 (illegal entrepreneurship with obtaining large-scale income), 192.2.3 (committed by an organized group), 193-1.3.1 (legalization of property obtained through criminal means), 193-1.3.2 (committed on a significant scale) of the Criminal Code, and the Khatai District Court chose detention as a preventive measure against them.
