Heavy rains in South Africa claim 253 lives

The death toll from heavy rains and floods in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province has reached 253, South African TV channel eNCA reported on Wednesday, citing the head of the provincial health service, Nomagugu Simelane.
Report informs citing TASS that during the day, an average of 300mm of precipitation fell in the Durban area, which is twice the previous record and was caused by the impact of a subtropical cyclone unusual for these latitudes.
The victims are provided with temporary housing, they are provided with food, and medical care.
