WHO: COVID antibodies don’t protect from reinfection

The World Health Organization (WHO) has data on reinfection with new strains of COVID, despite antibodies to the virus, Chief Researcher of the organization Soumya Swaminathan said at a briefing, Report informs.

"We are receiving reports of reinfections with a new strain of the virus. There have been preliminary reports," she said.

She noted that studies are being conducted on how much immunity from the virus the people who have recovered get. However, among those who were vaccinated, the vast majority carry the virus in a mild form.

There is also preliminary evidence that vaccination reduces the virus's virulence, and there is a possibility of reduced transmission of COVID after vaccination, Swaminathan added.
