Turkish expert: Iran's goal in attacking Middle East was to show force to local and international community

After the terrorist incident in Kerman, Iran hit various targets in Pakistan, Iraq, and Syria with missiles to show strength to both the local and international community and to prove that it is a deterrent, Can Acun, researcher of Türkiye's Foundation for Political, Economic, and Social Research (SETA), an expert on Middle East issues, said in a statement to Report.

According to him, Iran has recently been involved in a major power clash in the Middle East, especially with the US-Israel duo. The expert added that there are allegations that the United States and Israel support various organizations fighting against the separatist agenda inside Iran.

As for Iran's purpose in the attack, the expert said that Iran's main motivation here was to show force, but it received an unexpectedly harsh response, especially from Pakistan: "When it turned out that Iran had made a big miscalculation, it made diplomatic efforts to ease relations again. In the context of Iraq, the issue is more complicated. Iran reacted to the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Erbil targeting KRG-Israel relations, but this attack arguably put Iran in a difficult position in Baghdad."
