Maurice Pindard: 'France expels our people from territory, enforces its laws with police force'

France expels our people from the territory and enforces its laws with police force, a member of the Decolonization and Social Emancipation Movement in French Guiana, Maurice Pindard, said at the international conference “Neo-colonialism: violation of human rights and injustice”, organized by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), Report informs.

He said that human rights are violated in Guiana: "France does not recognize the UN right of peoples to self-determination. We do not have access to electricity, education, water and many other things. We have no fundamental rights. That is why we live in poverty. Only some people can use emergency services. We had an airline, and they cancelled it."

Pindard emphasized that neocolonialism is a serious problem for countries today: "Because it has great economic and political effects. Today there is a new type of colonial policy. The Americans, British, Dutch, and French are still pursuing colonial policy and hiding it. We don't even have a colonial status in France. But the colonial attitude we see is reality. Currently, the French army is expelling our people from the territory. The matter here is about political dominance. We have only two deputies in the parliament. France enforces the laws with police force. They extract the gold from our territory. Although we have enough natural resources, we have to use the oil from France. French companies are exploiting our natural resources, so we have nothing left to earn."
