The French government attacked the culture of the Kanak people, an employee of the New Caledonia Senate Secretariat, and an expert on New Caledonia, historian Jean Yves Poedi said at the conference themed “History, Contemporary Challenges, and the Expected Future," Report informs.
According to him, the Kanak people have a history and culture spanning nearly three thousand years: “France should not interfere in this. However, France is trying to wipe this culture off the face of the earth and make our people dependent on Western culture. Attacking culture is attacking the soul of the people. This must be prevented.”
