Georgia and Azerbaijan are working to create a common memorandum of cooperation between legislative bodies, which will cover various areas of activity of the parliaments of the two countries, chairman of the legislative body of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, said after a meeting with Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova in Baku, Report informs referring to Sputnik-Georgia.

“We had a conversation about raising relations between parliaments to an even higher level, working out a memorandum of cooperation between parliaments, which covers various areas,” Papuashvili said.

He noted that close relations between the parliaments of Georgia and Azerbaijan will help in creating a legislative framework for the streamlined implementation of a number of procedures, such as border crossing and cargo transportation.

“I think that the relations between our parliaments will especially support and help the implementation of those strategic projects that are sometimes discussed by the executive authorities, for which it is necessary, among other things, to create a legislative framework, because these procedures - border crossing, cargo transportation - must be established in practice, the appropriate legislative framework must be created,” Papuashvili added.

Georgia and Azerbaijan established diplomatic relations on November 18, 1992. The countries actively cooperate in the areas of trade, transport, energy, manufacturing and logistics.
