FM: Expanding relations with African countries is priority for Azerbaijan

Expanding relations with African countries has always been a priority for Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said at a joint press conference with Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ahmed Moalim Fiqi in Baku, Report informs.

Bayramov stressed that Azerbaijan conveyed the interests of African countries to the world during its chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement.

“This visit of the Somali Foreign Minister is a clear example of friendship and cooperation between our countries, and growing political dialogue. We are celebrating 20 years of diplomatic relations in 2024. We also cooperate within the framework of international organizations. Our last contact was during the OIC conference held in the capital of Gambia," the Azerbaijani minister said.

"In addition to bilateral relations, we also attach great importance to cooperation with Somalia on international platforms. Cooperation within the framework of the UN, OIC and NAM is an example of this. I congratulate Somalia on its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2025-2026. This shows the appreciation of Somalia’s contribution to international peace and cooperation by world nations.”
