Farid Shafiyev: ‘You should not prefer one ethnic group over another’

The return of Armenian refugees to Karabakh, i.e. Azerbaijan, and the return of Azerbaijani refugees to Armenia are issues of the same categories, Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the Management Board of the Center for the Analysis of International Relations (Air Center), wrote on X, Report informs.

“The return of Armenian refugees to Karabakh, i.e. Azerbaijan, and the return of Azerbaijani refugees to Armenia are issues of the same categories, especially in the context of international law. Unless you are biased, not to say racist or xenophobe, you can't prioritize one ethnic group over another. Period.

PS. I know some European or American policy-makers or expert might think differently, but they can shove their cultural bias up... to the dustbin of history,” reads the post.

Yuri Kim, the Principal Deputy Assistant to the US Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, took an unacceptable position regarding the right of return and discriminated against Azerbaijanis at the event titled "US Role for a New Regional Order in the South Caucasus" organized by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace last week.

The principal deputy assistant talked about the right of return of Armenians who voluntarily left the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. However, she did not address the right of return for Azerbaijanis who were forcibly expelled from Armenia.
