President: Azerbaijan to build gas pipeline to restored part of Karabakh

Azerbaijan plans to build a gas pipeline to that part of Karabakh, where restoration work is currently underway, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at a meeting with participants in the international conference "South Caucasus: Development and Cooperation", answering a question about oil and gas supplies to Karabakh.

According to Repor, the president noted that a station of 20 megawatts has already been put into operation, this year a capacity of another 25 megawatts will be put into operation.

"All Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur are already connected to the electric lines," the president said.

At the same time, he noted that energy is not supplied to the territories under the control of Russian peacekeepers, but the gas pipeline that goes to Khankandi passes through the territory controlled by Azerbaijan.

"Recently, there was an explosion there, and there was no gas for several days. Unfortunately, we were immediately accused of causing a humanitarian catastrophe. Double standards again, because when the first Karabakh war began, the Armenians cut off the gas supply from the main parts of Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan, and for 15 years the population of Nakhchivan, at that time, more than 400,000 people, lived without natural gas, and the winter there is very severe. And no one blamed Armenia for causing a humanitarian disaster," the president said.
