Underground gas storage (UGS) Reden in Germany stopped operating for three days due to fire, the operator of the gas storage company Astora said, Report informs via German media.

“For safety reasons, the UGS was temporarily decommissioned until 18:00 Friday (February 3)… The incident did not affect the security of supplies,” reads the operator’s press release.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Reden is one of the largest UGS facilities in Europe and the largest in Germany, with a capacity of 4.2 billion cubic meters.

According to Gas Infrastructure Europe, the storage is now 90.29% full (3.8 billion cubic meters of gas). It was part of Gazprom Germania. On April 1, 2022, the Gazprom Group ceased participation in its German subsidiary.
