The Swedish-Azerbaijani Association (SAF) in Sweden has called on the country's parliament (Riksdag) to recognize the Khojaly genocide committed by Armenians at the end of the last century, State Committee on Work with the Diaspora told Report.
A statement signed by SAF Chairman Sevda Dadashova addressed to the Swedish Riksdag said that on the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian armed forces together with the 366th Motorized Rifle Regiment attacked the city of Khojaly and committed a terrible genocide against peaceful Azerbaijanis. As a result of the Khojaly genocide, 613 civilians (including women, children, and the elderly) were killed, 487 were injured, 1,275 were taken prisoner, and 150 were missing.
Several countries, including 22 US states, have recognized the Khojaly genocide.
The primary purpose of the appeal to the Swedish parliamentarians is to provide the local community with detailed information about the Khojaly genocide committed by Armenians in the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, to achieve a legal and political assessment of this bloody crime. This statement was also sent to the country's political parties.
