Festival of culture and cuisine of Pakistan underway in Baku

On the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the Independence of Pakistan, a festival of culture and national cuisine of this country is being held in Baku, Report informs.

The event began with a video showing the sights of Pakistan.

Opening the festival, Ambassador of Pakistan to Azerbaijan Bilal Hayee noted that the relationship between the two countries goes back centuries. In addition, Pakistan was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan, he said.

The ambassador also spoke about the role of Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiyev in the fight against the spread of the plague in Pakistan at the beginning of the 20th century. The Azerbaijani philanthropist at his own expense bought and sent to Pakistan hundreds of thousands of ampoules of the vaccine against the plague, which played an important role in the victory over the deadly disease in that country.

Bilal Hayee said that Azerbaijan and Pakistan have always supported each other in the international arena. "Today, Kashmir and liberated Karabakh have a lot in common. We hope that with the support of Azerbaijan and other friendly countries, Kashmir will soon be free," the Pakistani diplomat added.

During the event, national dances of Azerbaijan and Pakistan were performed, and a tasting of Pakistani dishes is also planned.
