Muhammad Aurangzeb: Innovative solutions required for protection of water resources

Pakistan's Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb emphasized the urgent need for innovative solutions to protect the country's water resources and agricultural sector from climate change threats and glacier melting.

According to Report, speaking at the ministerial meeting on "Climate Change and Regional Cooperation to Prevent Glacier Melting in Central and West Asia," held in the Blue Zone of COP29, he emphasized that Pakistan could face water scarcity by 2040, which would seriously affect the agricultural sector that makes up 24% of the country's GDP.

The rapid melting of glaciers in the Karakoram and Hindu Kush poses a threat to water security and food stability, noted the minister.

Striving to enhance water security and agricultural sustainability, Pakistan is actively cooperating with international partners, including the Asian Development Bank and the Green Climate Fund, said Aurangzeb.

"By taking decisive actions, we can build a more sustainable and viable future for our nation," the minister concluded.
