The picturesque city of Shamakhi, Azerbaijan, is gearing up to host a pivotal meeting of COP29 negotiators, hot on the heels of the upcoming ministerial meeting in China, Elnur Soltanov, the Executive Director of COP29, said during a presentation titled "Solidarity for a Green World - COP29" at the 2nd Shusha Global Media Forum.

"The ministerial meeting in China is of utmost importance," Soltanov emphasized. "It will be followed by a meeting of negotiators in Shamakhi, setting the stage for further discussions in September and a preparatory committee meeting."

Soltanov expressed optimism about the progress of COP29 negotiations, stating, "The talks are proceeding successfully, and we are determined to maintain this accelerated pace." Azerbaijan, a nation with a rich history of environmental stewardship, is committed to driving meaningful change in the fight against climate change.

The COP29 agenda will focus on critical issues such as climate financing, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, the loss and damage fund, transition programs, global adaptation, and a new model for climate financing. These topics are at the forefront of global efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change and foster a sustainable future for all.

"What we have today is not enough. The funds are insufficient, and collective efforts are necessary," Soltanov stated. He highlighted the need to reduce daily oil consumption from the current 97 million barrels to 25-30 million barrels by 2050. Similarly, gas consumption must be reduced from 4 trillion cubic meters to 1 trillion cubic meters, and coal consumption from 8 billion tons to 1 billion tons by 2050, Soltanov said.
