Orkhan Mammadov: About 15,000 SMEs operate in Azerbaijan’s construction sector

Since 2018, when the new SME criteria were introduced in Azerbaijan, there has been an increase in the number of SMEs operating in the construction sector, and about 15,000 SMEs are operating in this field, Chairman of the Board of the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (SMBDA) under the Ministry of Economy Orkhan Mammadov said at the seminar on "Türkiye-Azerbaijan cooperation in the field of modern construction technologies" held by the Türkiye-Azerbaijani Business Council of the Foreign Economic Relations Committee of Türkiye (DEIK) within the Caspian Construction Week, Report informs.

He said that the construction sector has great potential in terms of expanding business initiatives between the countries: "Azerbaijan has cement plants, metal constructions, and enterprises that produce modern construction materials that work on the basis of new technologies. Our country is also rich in raw materials for the production of a number of construction materials. This shows that the knowledge, skills, and experience of SMEs specializing in the relevant sector are sufficiently formed."

Mammadov noted that there are ample opportunities for further development of cooperation in the construction sector between Azerbaijan and Türkiye: "SMBDA is ready to support the realization of these opportunities."
