Azerbaijan, Bulgaria ink MoU on cooperation in wine tourism

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB) and the Bulgarian Association of Wine Professionals (BAWP) on May 12 to expand cooperation, Report informs, citing ATB.

The document envisages the establishment of a working group between the parties, as well as mutual support at tourism exhibitions and other wine tourism events.

Speaking at the online meeting, the Azerbaijan Tourism Board CEO Florian Sengstschmid noted that Azerbaijan has internationally recognized local grape varieties and wines, tourist routes are prepared in this direction, and the country's wine-growing experience is developing. Florian Sengstschmid also talked about Azerbaijan's participation in the cultural winemaking route "Iter Vitis," established by the Council of Europe and the European Institute of Cultural Routes.

During the discussions, BAWP Chairman of the Board Ivaylo Katerski stressed the importance of membership in the Iter Vitis wine route project and expressed interest in developing the experience of the wine route between Azerbaijan and Bulgaria.

The sides also exchanged views on the development of wine tourism between the two countries, the improvement and mutual promotion of local grape varieties, as well as the creation of wine routes.
